A wonderful and heartwarming family event!!! So plentiful that the absence of the usual buffet for Covid reasons had no impact on variety and quantity. The surroundings were extremely elegant, the social distancing enormous, the food plentiful and of the very best quality. I very much applaud Nubar and the Sheraton Commander for their loyalty to their customers in this way.

Nubar must have lost money on this event, but maintained the tradition despite all that. This year the pandemic discouraged patrons and there were far fewer patrons for this year's Thanksgiving dinner than even Covid restrictions allowed. I wish to thank General Manager Richard Mann and Nubar employees for their loyalty to customers in maintaining this Thanksgiving tradition at the Cambridge Sheraton Commander. MoreĪn absolutely sumptuous and memorable Thanksgiving Dinner here two years running, in 2019 and again this year in 2020! And definitely do not go expecting the old Nubar. Do not go here until they re-work the place, whenever that will be. People seem to have gotten the idea: This place used to be bustling, and now it's only about one-third full. TripAdvisor rates it the 37th best restaurant in Cambridge (out of 308 restaurants), which is pretty poor, given that all of the other comparable but good restaurants (and several less expensive ones, like Red House, Russell House, and Grafton Street) are rated in the top 20. As best I can tell, it declined sharply at the beginning of 2023.

I ate here three times recently (because I couldn't believe the place had degraded so badly), so this is not just one bad night.

COMMANDER RESTAURANT HOW TO

The managers clearly do not know how to run a restaurant. The service is poor to amazingly poor (not even respectful). His main course was one of the restaurant’s newest dishes Caf Pierre Lacquered Texas Quail. Daryl opted for the menu’s Classic Creole Luncheon, a three-course meal priced at 42 at the time of our visit. The sensible meal options are four sandwiches prepared in a mediocre way. The Caf Pierre Lacquered Texas Quail may be a new addition to the Commander’s Palace menu but don’t rule it out. They have only five entrees, all notably over-priced. The menu is quite limited, much of it one step above bar food. It has sharply declined in both food and service. This used to be a solid full-service restaurant of reasonable quality.

  • A steady parade of renowned chefs - Emeril Lagasse, Paul Prudhomme, Jamie Shannon, Tory McPhail, and now Meg Bickford - have made Commander's Palace the world-class restaurant what it is today and its leading-edge New Haute Creole cuisine reflects the best of the city. Now under the watchful eye of co-proprietors Ti Adelaide Martin and Lally Brennan, the Brennan family's dedication to perfection has never wavered. When Ella, Dottie, Dick and John Brennan took over personal supervision of the restaurant in 1974, they began to give the splendid old landmark a new look both inside and out including painting the outside the iconic "Commander's Blue." The winner of seven James Beard Foundation Awards, Commander's Palace has evolved into a culinary legend. Known for the award-winning quality of its food and its convivial atmosphere, the history of this famous restaurant offers a glimpse into New Orleans' storied past and has been the go-to destination for Haute Creole cuisine and whimsical Louisiana charm. Commander's Palace, nestled in the middle of the tree-lined Garden District, has been a New Orleans landmark since 1893.
